Audi Japan Confirms Presence of False Data in Emissions Tests, Blames Human Error

Audi Japan officially confirmed on Friday that it had discovered errors in its fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions data, saying that this happened due to a mistake made by an employee.

TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th September, 2018) Audi Japan officially confirmed on Friday that it had discovered errors in its fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions data, saying that this happened due to a mistake made by an employee.

According to the company's press release, Audi Japan found out that 37 out of 692 cars tested from July 2014 to July 2018 did not meet the standards established by the Japanese government.

"When the vehicle is driven at a speed exceeding the speed set during testing, such cases should be recorded as 'erroneous.' As a result of human error, the data on such cases were not recorded as 'erroneous' during the manual transfer of information to the system," the document read.

The company said it intended to review the system and introduce a mechanism for the automatic detection of cases that did not meet any established criteria.

In July, Japanese automaker Nissan admitted that a company-wide audit discovered that its plants in Japan had been falsifying exhaust emissions and fuel efficiency test data. Emissions scandals have previously hit other auto manufacturers, including Volkswagen, Fiat-Chrysler, Renault and General Motors.
