UN Rights Watchdog Extends Probe Into Yemen Conflict

The UN Human Rights Council voted Friday on a resolution to extend the mandate of its expert group probing war crimes in Yemen, the agency's secretariat said.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th September, 2018) The UN Human Rights Council voted Friday on a resolution to extend the mandate of its expert group probing war crimes in Yemen, the agency's secretariat said.

"HRC extends mandate of Group of Eminent Experts for 1 year," the secretariat tweeted, adding the experts would submit a report on their findings.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Pakistan, Cuba, China, Burundi and Venezuela voted against the resolution.

This comes a day after Yemen's internationally-recognized government ended the group's right to investigate in the country after an August report accused its Gulf allies of war crimes.

The monitoring group concluded that the Saudi-led coalition was behind most civilian casualties and accused it of launching indiscriminate airstrikes at residential areas, funerals, weddings, and clinics.
