Russia Willing To Develop Ties With Organisation Of Islamic Cooperation - Lavrov

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th September, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with Yousef Al-Othaimeen, the secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), during which the Russian top diplomat said Moscow was willing to preserve, develop and advance its cooperation with the organization.

"Very nice to have this opportunity Mr. secretary general to briefly, due to obvious reasons, discuss what we can do to promote our cooperation further. I'm sure it's useful relationship and we want to keep it, to develop it and to promote it," Lavrov told Al-Othaimeen during their meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the ongoing UN General Assembly session in New York City on Thursday.

Lavrov recalled that Russia's Republic of Dagestan would host the next session of the Group of strategic vision "Russia - Islamic world." The Russian top diplomat expressed hope that Al-Othaimeen would enjoy his visit to Dagestan for the event.

Al-Othaimeen, in his turn, noted the importance of the OIC relations with Russia.

The 73rd UN General Assembly session began on September 18 and will last through October 5.

During his visit to New York City for the event, Lavrov held multiple bilateral and multilateral meetings. On Friday, the Russian top diplomat will give a speech at the session.
