BRICS Ministers Discuss Political, Economic, Security Issues on UNGA Sidelines - New Delhi

The BRICS foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, and discussed global political, economic, and security matters, India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

NEW DELHI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th September, 2018) The BRICS foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, and discussed global political, economic, and security matters, India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

The meeting was attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj, Brazilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Lindiwe Sisulu, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to the Indian ministry.

"EAM [Swaraj] exchanged views with BRICS Ministers on matters of global political, economic, and security significance. EAM was briefed on preparations for the upcoming BRICS Chairmanship of Brazil for 2019. EAM congratulated South Africa for a successful Johannesburg BRICS Summit in July 2018 and extended India's full support to Brazil for their BRICS Chairmanship in 2019," the press release reads.

The 73rd session of the UN General Assembly started on September 18 in the General Assembly Hall in New York under the presidency of Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Maria Espinosa Garces. The forum unites all 193 UN member states to discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the UN Charter, such as development, international law, peace and security, and pressing issues on the international agenda.
