UEFA Announces Germany to Host Euro 2024

Germany will host the Euro 2024 football championship, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin announced on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th September, 2018) Germany will host the Euro 2024 football championship, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin announced on Thursday.

Turkey was the only other candidate.

"In the ballot, the 17 members of the UEFA Executive Committee entitled to vote were asked to indicate their preferred bid. The ballot produced the following results: Germany - 12 votes, Turkey - 4 votes, Invalid - 1," UEFA said in a statement.

The decision was welcomed by incumbent head coach of the German national team Joachim Loew.

"A tournament like this is extraordinary for a country and can be a huge motivation for young players. It's a good step for the coming years. Everyone at the association can now start planning," Loew said, as quoted on the German national team's Twitter page.

The vote took place at the UEFA Executive Committee session in Nyon, Switzerland.

The tournament is held every four years. Contrary to the usual practice of having one country to host the event, UEFA Euro 2020 finals will take place in 12 different European states to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the competition.
