Death Toll in Nigerian Floods Rises to 200 - Emergency Authorities

Continuous flooding in Nigeria has killed nearly 200 people and injured over 1,000 more, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th September, 2018) Continuous flooding in Nigeria has killed nearly 200 people and injured over 1,000 more, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Thursday.

Since late August, heavy rains across Nigeria have caused massive flooding. Earlier reports indicated that about 100 people had died as a result.

According to the latest report, published by NEMA on its Twitter, the disaster also led to over 176,000 people becoming internally displaced and over 17,000 houses being damaged.

The report added that the number of victims was expected to rise as the assessments were still underway in some regions.

The disaster hit 12 states across the country, with Anambra, Delta, Kogi and Niger being declared as officially affected by a national disaster.
