 Russian, Armenian Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Relations on UNGA Sidelines - Moscow

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan discussed bilateral relations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th September, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan discussed bilateral relations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

"On September 26, 2018, Russian Foreign Minister S.V. Lavrov held a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Z. Mnatsakanyan in New York, on the sidelines on the 73rd UN General Assembly. A number of topical issues on bilateral and regional agenda were discussed," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, Lavrov and Mnatsakanyan focused on the Russian-Armenian interaction at international forums.

Lavrov met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi as well. Their talks focused on the situation in Iraq and Syria.

"The opinions were exchanged at the meeting about key aspects of the middle East agenda with the focus on the situation in Iraq, Syria and Middle Eastern settlement," the ministry said.

The two sides reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to the political settlement of the crises based on the internationally recognized legal framework.

The ministers discussed the need to step up Russian-Jordanian cooperation in various fields.

Lavrov's meeting with Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic Miguel Vargas Maldonado focused on the key aspects of bilateral economic, political and humanitarian cooperation. The two ministers discussed the interaction of their countries within the United Nations and on other platforms, "including in light of the Dominican Republic election as a non-permanent UN Security Council member in 2019-2020," the ministry said.

Bilateral relations were also the topic of Lavrov's meeting with Equatorial Guinea's President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. The two sides discussed the most pressing issues, including "the reinvigoration of political dialogue and boosting their mutually beneficial partnership in trade, economy and defense industry," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The two sides discussed their joint work in the United Nations, including the UN Security Council, of which Equatorial Guinea is now a non-permanent member.

Lavrov also met with Comorian Foreign Minister Mohamed El-Amine Souef to discuss bilateral relations and interaction on various international platforms.

The Russian foreign minister discussed bilateral relations and boosting friendly ties with the foreign minister of Grenada, Peter David, as well.
