Russian Chief Justice Says Asia-Pacific Discussing Creation Of Arbitration Tribunal

VLADIVOSTOK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th September, 2018) Chief Justice of Russia's Supreme Court Vyacheslav Lebedev said on Tuesday that the Asia-Pacific had been currently discussing the idea to set up an arbitration institution to resolve regional disputes.

Earlier in the day, the 10th Asia-Pacific International Legal Forum kicked off in Vladivostok.

"The proposal to establish an arbitration tribunal to resolve disputes in the Asia-Pacific region is being discussed," Lebedev said at the forum.

To lay grounds for the practical interaction of the judicial branch with alternative methods of dispute settlement, the Russian Supreme Court tabled a relevant bill to the parliament's lower house, he said.

Lebedev noted that the efforts had been made to work proposals on improving arbitration mechanisms, with the topic being on the forum's agenda.

The 10th Asia-Pacific International Legal Forum will continue through Wednesday, with representatives of the judicial branches of Vietnam, Cambodia, China, North Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Russia, Thailand and experts from other countries taking part in the event.
