MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) Turkish forces have killed, captured or forced to surrender 33 militants linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the course of counterterrorism operations held across Turkey over the past week, local media reported on Monday, citing the Turkish Interior Ministry.

According to the Anadolu news agency, Turkish forces carried out 2,425 ground and air operations over the past week, killing 20 militants, capturing nine and forcing four others to surrender.

A total of 3,992 people have been arrested for drugs and smuggling-related offenses, while 67 people have been detained for supporting terror organizations.

Over the past week, Turkish security forces have also destroyed 14 terrorist shelters in six provinces across the country.

Tensions between the Turkish government and the PKK, listed as a terrorist organization in the country, have escalated in 2015 when their ceasefire agreement collapsed over a series of terror attacks that Ankara holds the PKK responsible for. The Turkish forces are involved in anti-PKK raids across the country and in Northern Iraq.
