Venezuela's Maduro Tells Banks To Release Hoarded Cash Amid Deficit

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2018) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro gave banks two days to release the cash he believes they stashed away, as lack of printed bolivars threatens his money policy.

"State and private banks have 48 hours to free the money they stole from the people," Maduro said in a televised address on Friday, adding "the ball is in banks' court."

Maduro claimed lack of printed money had been increasingly felt since August and blamed it on limited daily withdrawals of 10 bolivars per person (around 16 US cents).

The president announced the launch of a new redenominated bolivar with five less zeros on August 20 in response to years of hyperinflation and pegged it to the oil-backed petro digital Currency.
