Russia, US Fail To Resolve Tariffs Dispute In WTO, Arbitration Pending - Oreshkin

ST. PETERSBURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) The Russian and US delegations at the World Trade Organization (WTO) have held consultations as part of a Russian lawsuit against the United States over tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, but they have not brought results, Russian Minister of Economic DevelopmentMaxim Oreshkin said Friday.

"The standard procedure is that consultations are held first, their content can not be divulged according to WTO rules, but I can say that these consultations have taken place, but they have not brought any results," Oreshkin told reporters on the sidelines of the 2nd Eurasian Women's Forum in St. Petersburg.

"This means that we will continue to move along a standard procedure that can eventually take even several years, considering the arbitration of the dispute itself, then appeals and so on," the minister stressed.

The United States introduced a 25-percent tariff on steel and a 10-percent tariff on aluminum imports, starting March 23, citing protection of its domestic producers as the reason.
