The leaders of the 28 member states of the European Union are focusing on discussing ways to deal with the problem of illegal immigration and refugees, strengthening the protection of the EU's external borders and discussing the latest developments in Brexit negotiations.
The summit is hosted by Chancellor Sebastien Curtis, the current holder of the rotating European Council presidency, who puts combating illegal immigration and strengthening the protection of external borders on the list of the priorities of the current EU Presidency of Austria.
The Austrian EU Presidency wants to put the strengthening and staffing of the EU border protection agency Frontex at the center of the deliberations.
According to the Austria's plans, by 2020 Frontex (Agency of the European Union headquartered in Warsaw, Poland) is to be increased from the current figure to 10,000 and will be given more extensive skills.
