Chinese Leader, Pakistani Army Chief Discuss Fight Against Terrorism - Reports

Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting with Pakistani army chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bagjwa on Wednesday in Beijing, and the sides agreed to strengthen coordination and cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, as well as to provide further mutual support on regional and international issues, media reported.

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2018) Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting with Pakistani army chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bagjwa on Wednesday in Beijing, and the sides agreed to strengthen coordination and cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, as well as to provide further mutual support on regional and international issues, media reported.

According to China Central Television, Xi expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its support for China's Belt and Road Initiative and the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor project.

"The two sides should strengthen military cooperation in combating terrorism and ensuring mutual benefit," Xi said at the meeting.

Xi, among other things, called on Pakistan to strengthen cooperation on regional and international issues and support each other on issues "affecting the fundamental interests and concerns of each side."

Bagjwa, on his part, noted that Pakistan has always considered the development of relations with China as one of the country's priority directions.

The general thanked China for its support for Islamabad and stated that Pakistan will continue to strengthen strategic contacts, practical exchanges and counterterrorism cooperation with the Chinese army.
