ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2018) An Istanbul court has ruled to arrest 24 workers involved in building a local airport who were detained earlier for participating in a protest calling for labor conditions, a representative of the trade union of construction and road workers told Sputnik on Wednesday.

On Friday, media reported that the Istanbul police detained some 500 workers during a protest where people were calling for better salaries and security conditions. Later, Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin said that 275 of the detainees had been released.

"Of 534 people detained earlier, 24 people were arrested this morning, they are charged with violating public order and damaging infrastructure. The others were released. We are receiving information that hundreds of workers may be fired after this strike," the representative said.
