ST. PETERSBURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2018) Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton responded via the embassy that she was unable to participate in the Eurasian Women's Forum, which kicked off in Russia's St. Petersburg earlier on Wednesday, Russian upper house speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.

Matviyenko said in October that Clinton could attend the forum, adding that she was in contact with the US politician.

"She could not come, obviously due to serious reasons. She responded through the [US] Embassy," the Russian Federation Council speaker told reporters.

The three-day forum, focusing on women empowerment, will feature a whole range of international discussion platforms, meetings, debates and research projects, and is expected to be attended by officials from 30 international organizations such as the Council of Europe, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the United Nations, as well as delegations from more than 117 countries, according to the organizers.
