Afghan President to Discuss Peace Efforts With Indian Prime Minister Wednesday - Reports

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will hold a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi later on Wednesday to discuss the efforts toward Kabul's reconciliation with the Taliban movement, local media reported, citing Ghani's deputy spokesman.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2018) Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will hold a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi later on Wednesday to discuss the efforts toward Kabul's reconciliation with the Taliban movement, local media reported, citing Ghani's deputy spokesman.

According to the TOLOnews broadcaster, Ghani has arrived in the Indian city of New Delhi for a one-day working visit, which will include not only talks with Modi on bilateral cooperation and regional security situation, but also a reception hosted by the India Foundation research center.

The visit comes against the backdrop of Afghanistan-India cooperation enhancement, with the New Development Partnership being developed. Within this framework, India pledged to launch 116 "high impact community developmental projects" in Afghanistan, set to improve the social situation in the country. The two sides also agreed to step up cooperation on the peace process in Afghanistan, where the government has long been engaged in fight with the Taliban insurgency and various terrorist organizations.
