WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2018) A court in Indianapolis, Indiana, sentenced a police officer to 12 months in prison for using excessive force against an arrestee, the US Department of Justice said in a press release.
"Michael Kaim, 28, a former police officer with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Police Department, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis, Indiana, for deprivation of civil rights," the release said on Tuesday. "Kaim was sentenced to serve 12 months in prison and pay a fine of $1,000."
The release said, citing court documents, that Kaim shoved and repeatedly punched a "patient-employee" that was in the process of being arrested outside of the Richard Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
A law enforcement officer who uses excessive force against an arrestee violates the Constitution, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division John Gore said in the release.
