North, South Korea Cooperation to Help Boost Mutual Relations With Russia, Europe - Moon

Developing cooperation between Seoul and Pyongyang may boost ties of both Korean states with Russia and Europe, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Tuesday.

SEOUL (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) Developing cooperation between Seoul and Pyongyang may boost ties of both Korean states with Russia and Europe, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, the South Korean delegation, comprising 150 people and headed by Moon, arrived in Pyongyang.

"We could create the future, which has not been seen before. Our cooperation can cross the continent and reach Russia and Europe as well as cross the sea and reach ASEAN and India," Moon said, referring to the project of linking South and North Korean railways to the Trans-Siberian Railway, which is necessary for sending cargos to Europe.

Moon also announced continuation of talks with Kim on Wednesday.

"I want to discuss with Kim development of relations in the military field, economy, culture, as well as ways to eliminate the threat of war and ease tensions between the two Korean states," Moon said.

Kim, in turn, vowed to make every possible effort to boost aspirations for reconciliation and solidarity between Pyongyang and Seoul.

"I am sure that the current meeting with President Moon would accelerate development of the North and South and our progress will become yet another landmark, giving a great pleasure and faith to our compatriots," Kim added.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula has significantly improved over the past few months, with Kim and Moon having held two bilateral meetings in April and May. In June, Kim also reached an agreement with US President Donald Trump, stipulating that North Korea would make efforts to promote complete denuclearization of the peninsula in exchange for US-South Korean military drills' freeze and a potential removal of US sanctions.
