Libyan Court to Issue Ruling on Russian Tanker Sailors Case on October 9 -Russian Official

The court of the Libyan capital of Tripoli will decide on the case of Russian detained sailors from oil tanker Temeteron on October 9, Head of Russian Contact Group for intra-Libyan settlement Lev Dengov told Sputnik Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) The court of the Libyan capital of Tripoli will decide on the case of Russian detained sailors from oil tanker Temeteron on October 9, Head of Russian Contact Group for intra-Libyan settlement Lev Dengov told Sputnik Tuesday.

"The final debate of the defense and the prosecutor's office have been held. The court said that a verdict will be announced on October 9, " Dengov said, referring to the Temeteron case.

In June 2016, the Temeteron tanker, owned by a Greek company but operating under the flag of Belize, was detained by Libyan forces in waters off Libya. The crew, consisting of three Russians, five Ukrainians and a Greek citizen, was accused of oil smuggling.

Two Russian sailors - the captain and his second in command - are facing up to five years in prison.
