Salvadoran President's Meeting With Putin Should Be Held as Soon as Possible - Ambassador

A bilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the president of El Salvador should take place as soon as possible, Efren Arnoldo Bernal Chevez, the ambassador of El Salvador to Russia, told Sputnik on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) A bilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the president of El Salvador should take place as soon as possible, Efren Arnoldo Bernal Chevez, the ambassador of El Salvador to Russia, told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"I would like this meeting to be arranged as soon as possible. But you know that presidential election will be held in El Salvador in February [2019]. If we fail to organize the meeting before the year ends, if we fail to do it this year, then, it probably will be the next president [who will meet with Putin]. But no matter who will do this [meet with Putin], the most important thing is that there is an agenda between our two countries," Chevez said.

Presidential election will be held on February 3, 2019, in El Salvador. Salvador Sanchez Ceren, the current president of El Salvador, cannot be eligible for immediate re-election under the country's legislation.

Chevez added that El Salvador saw no limits to its cooperation with Russia.

"We have no limits in this context, we are ready to promote different themes that will bring our people and our countries together," the diplomat said.

The ambassador pointed out that in the next few weeks, Salvadoran students would arrive in Russia.

"In the coming weeks, new students who will study in different Russian universities will arrive in the country, there will be over 30 of them, I believe," Chevez specified.

In June 2017, the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Russia and El Salvador was celebrated. The two countries enjoy friendly bilateral relations.
