Russia to Work With Syrians on Idlib Buffer Zone Deal - Kremlin Spokesman

Russia will work with Syria on a memorandum on the stabilization of situation in Idlib de-escalation zone, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) Russia will work with Syria on a memorandum on the stabilization of situation in Idlib de-escalation zone, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

At a meeting in Russia's Sochi on Monday, Russian and Turkish presidents, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed to create by October 15 a demilitarized zone along the line of contact between the armed opposition and Syrian government forces in Idlib. The Russian and Turkish defense ministers signed a memorandum on Idlib settlement.

"As for the Syrian colleagues, we will be working with them - both the [Russian] president and the defense minister mentioned this yesterday. When it comes to the Iranian side, it provided its assessment [of the matter] in a Foreign Ministry statement," Peskov told reporters when asked about the Syrian and Iranian reactions to the memorandum.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said earlier on Tuesday that the meetings and negotiations held in recent weeks, including the trilateral summit in Tehran and talks between Putin and Erdogan in Sochi, were "succeeding to avert war in Idlib."
