PM Imran thanks people of Karachi for generous donations in dams fund

Rs 76 crores were raised at the Dam fundraiser in Karachi

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 18th September, 2018) Prime Minister Imran Khan has thanked the people of Karachi for making generous donations to the fund dedicated for the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, the prime minister said that the people of Karachi donated Rs 76 crores in the dam fundraiser.

“I want to thank the people of Karachi for their generosity in supporting the Dam Fund. Rs 76 crores were raised at this Dam fundraiser,” he wrote.

The Fund was established by the SBP on the directions of the Supreme Court. All the commercial and micro-finance banks, and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation have opened the Fund account to receive donations in cash, and through cheques, pay orders and demand drafts at all their branches across the country.

The trend was started by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar himself who donated Rs 10 lac and then another Rs 1 lac for the construction of dams and has so far received generous donations from various individuals and groups.

Endorsing the CJP's initiative, Prime Minister Imran Khan also made an impassioned appeal to all Pakistanis, particularly its overseas diaspora, to donate funds in US Dollars to help the country build dams, as it could face major droughts by the year 2025.
