Syrian Authorities Welcome Russia-Turkey Agreement on Idlib - Reports Citing Source

The Syrian authorities welcome the agreement on a demilitarized zone in Idlib reached by the Russian and Turkish leaders, local media reported on Tuesday citing a source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a meeting in Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi, which lasted almost 4.5 hours. They have agreed to create a demilitarized zone along the contact line between the armed opposition and government troops in Idlib by October 15.

"The Syrian Arab Republic welcomes the Idlib agreement announced yesterday in Sochi and stresses that this agreement is the result of intensive consultations between Syria and Russia, coordination of actions of the two countries," the source said as quoted by the SANA news agency.

According to the source, the Syrian authorities are determined to liberate the entire country from terrorists either by military operations or ceasefire agreements.

"The Syrian Arab Republic welcomes any agreement that can stop the bloodshed in Syria and restore peace and security to the territories that suffered from terrorism, and stresses that it will continue to fight terrorism until the last piece of land is liberated, whether through military operations or signing a truce on the ground," the source said.
