CM Buzdar, ex-IGP Imam render apology in Pakpattan DPO transfer case

The CJP rejected the inquiry report submitted by former Punjab IG Kaleem Imam and directed senior police officer Khalid Lak to inquire into the transfer of the former Pakpattan DPO.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 17th September, 2018) Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, former Punjab IG Kaleem Imam and others on Monday tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court in a case pertaining to the transfer of former Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Rizwan Gondal.

A hearing on the transfer of Pakpattan DPO Rizwan Gondal suo motu notice was held in the Supreme Court on Monday.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and Ahsan Jamil Gujjar, a close friend of the Maneka family, appeared before the court.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar called the Punjab CM to the rostrum. The CJP said that all the connections will be revealed now.

“CM Sahab, you call people to make your recommendations?” the CJP asked.

To this, the Punjab CM replied that he is trying to depoliticise the police.

“The matter came into notice three days after I assumed the office of Punjab CM. I directed the RPO to solve the issue in a friendly manner. I did not assert any political pressure,” he added.

The CJP ordered Khalid Lak to investigate into the matter. This is an issue of rule of law, he said.

The CJP said that you pressurise the police officers. Is this how you will run such a big province? The Punjab CM said that the IGP was in Islamabad then, and he wanted to meet the police officers himself.

Following this, Buzdar and Jamil tendered an unconditional apology to the apex court. Further, former Punjab IG Kaleem Imam left himself to the mercy of the court and also tendered an unconditional apology.

Earlier, the CJP rejected the inquiry report submitted by former Punjab IG Kaleem Imam and directed senior police officer Khalid Lak to inquire into the transfer of the former Pakpattan DPO.

Pakpattan DPO Rizwan Gondal was allegedly transferred for stopping Khawar Maneka, the former husband of Bushra Maneka, at a police check post.

According to media reports, Maneka had used abusive language when police officials tried to stop him at a picket last Thursday. DPO Rizwan Gondal was later asked to apologize to Maneka at his home which he refused, saying the police officials present on the occasion did not commit any crime.

Gondal was then transferred by the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam.

After the news of the DPO’s transfer went viral on social media, the IGP said that the Pakpattan DPO was not transferred ‘under any pressure but for making false statements’.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered two inquiries in Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Rizwan Gondal’s transfer case on September 3.
