Turkey, Russia, Germany and France agreed at a meeting on Syria in Istanbul that the solution of the problem of Syria's Idlib should not be military, but political, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Friday.

Aides to the leaders of Russia, Germany, Turkey and France held a meeting on Syria on Friday in Istanbul. The sides discussed the agenda of a possible four-party summit on Syria in that city.

"The sides reached a general agreement that a possible attack on Idlib would have serious consequences and would cause a wave of refugees. Today we had an opportunity to assess these risks and discuss what steps we can take to prevent this disaster. The common position is that the solution should not be military, but political," Kalin told reporters.
