Former Soviet President Gorbachev Presents Book Based on Conversations With World Leaders

Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has presented his new book called "In The Changing World" and dedicated to the foreign policy of the Perestroika era and based, in particular, on documents and records of conversations with world leaders of that time.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th September, 2018) Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has presented his new book called "In The Changing World" and dedicated to the foreign policy of the Perestroika era and based, in particular, on documents and records of conversations with world leaders of that time.

"Mikhail Sergeyevich had an idea to write one more book, a book about foreign policy of the Perestroika period and a book that also contained estimates of what happened in the world after Perestroika," Pavel Palazhchenko, head of the international communications and public relations department at the Gorbachev Foundation, said at the presentation of the book.

According to Palazhchenko, the book contains many documents and it is based on records of Gorbachev's conversations with such leaders as former US President George Bush (1989-1993), former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (1979-1990) and former French President Francois Mitterrand (1981-1995).

"Originally, the book was thought of by Mikhail Sergeyevich and us as conversations about these people, but then the format was expanded," Palazhchenko added.

Gorbachev held the highest rank in the Soviet Union between 1985 and 1991, becoming the first ever and the last president of the USSR in March 1990, as the country dissolved into a number of independent states in 1991. He unsuccessfully ran for president of Russia in 1996.
