Debout la France Party Says Opposes Juncker's Plan to Build Up EU Common Border Force

France's Debout la France party advocates the national border controls within the European Union, therefore, opposes the recent plan for the strengthening of the EU border force proposed by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in order to better tackle migration, party member Sebastien Cochard told Sputnik on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th September, 2018) France's Debout la France party advocates the national border controls within the European Union, therefore, opposes the recent plan for the strengthening of the EU border force proposed by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in order to better tackle migration, party member Sebastien Cochard told Sputnik on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Juncker delivered his annual State of the Union speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, outlining the bloc's agenda for the next year. Among other measures, Juncker proposed to strengthen the European Border and Coast Guard to stop illegal migration increasing the EU border staff by 10,000 before 2020.

"We do not support this plan of creating a 'federal' border force. Protecting border belongs exclusively to each state, not to the European Union. This new Federal border guards group will act in competition with national border guards and will penetrate countries despite their sovereign territorial rights," the politician said.

According to Cochard, France should prevent migrants from entering the country's territory and should actively send away those, who crossed into the country illegally.

"This is indeed not at all what is done. We hope that the practices put in place by Mr. [Prime Minister Viktor] Orban in Hungary and Mr. [Interior Minister Matteo] Salvini in Italy will propagate and lead the way in Europe," he stated.

The European Union's open-door migration policy has recently been challenged by the Hungarian-Italian alliance represented by Orban and Salvini, who demanded a stronger border protection and a tougher migration policy.
