NA body for preference to local people in jobs on CPEC schemes

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Oct, 2016 ) : Senate Standing Committee on Communications directed concerned departments for giving preference to local people for jobs related to highways and motorways.

The committee met with Senator Daud Khan Achakzai in the chair also directed to employee youth from local population in schemes under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. Senator Daud Khan Achakzai said that such initiatives would muster confidence of the local population to ensure security on routes especially which are part of the CPEC.

He directed Motorway police to fill vacant posts through adopting departmental procedure instead of National Testing Service (NTS). Motaryway police informed that 3,000 posts were in the process while 709 constables had been inducted after pursuing a transparent criteria.

It was informed that candidates were recruited following conducting written examination of NTS and BTS, adding these posts were widely advertised in national newspapers. During 2015-16, 96 percent of the total allocated budget for motorway was utilized while in 2016-17, 20 percent fund had been spent, so far, he informed the committee.

The committee was informed there were three maga projects being carried out by the Motorway Police including Motorway Police Complex Rahim Yar Khan, Center Police Office Islamabad, Motorway Police Training Center Sheikhpura.

Chairman NHA apprised the committee that Lowari Tunnel would be completed by March next year, adding the lowest bidder has been awarded the contract after completing required formalities and floating tenders for the construction of seven roads in different areas of the country.

The committee was informed that 201 km-long four-lane D.I.Khan-Zob road design had been completed, adding design for 164 km-long road from Kohat to Gambila was also completed. The chairman NHA said tenders' formalities for Behrain-Kalam road had been completed.

The Committee chairman also sought details by next meeting about the removal of a sign board of late Khan Abdul Wali Khan near Nowshera. APP/slm/mir
