MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th September, 2018) European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos said at a recent press conference that he would meet Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini on Friday.
"I will meet Mr. Salvini tomorrow in Vienna and we will have a frank and open discussion about [migration]," Avramopoulos said.
Salvini has been promoting a tougher migration policy, stressing that Italy, which often serves as the first point of entry to the European Union for undocumented migrants, would take no more. The country has even threatened to vote down the next seven-year budget plan for the European Union if Brussels did not listen to Rome's calls to show solidarity with Italy and ease the country's migration burden.
According to the International Organization for Migration, over 20,300 migrants have reached Italy by sea so far this year.
