Hurricane Florence Slows Down, Yet Remains 'Life-Threatening' Storm - US Hurricane Center

Hurricane Florence has been downgraded to a Category 2 storm but is expected to bring a "life-threatening storm surge" and heavy rainfall as it approaches the US state of North Carolina, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its advisory on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th September, 2018) Hurricane Florence has been downgraded to a Category 2 storm but is expected to bring a "life-threatening storm surge" and heavy rainfall as it approaches the US state of North Carolina, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its advisory on Thursday.

"Outer rain bands of Florence are approaching the coast of North Carolina. Life-threatening storm surge and rainfall expected," the advisory read.

As of 09:00 GMT, the storm, with maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour (mph), was about 205 miles east-southeast of Wilmington, North Carolina, and about 250 miles east-southeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, according to the advisory. The hurricane was moving northwest at 15 mph.

More than 10 million people are believed to be in the path of the hurricane, which is expected to make landfall in North or South Carolina late Thursday or early Friday morning.
