Delegates From 117 Countries to Take Part in Eurasian Women's Forum in Russia - Matviyenko

Delegations from 117 countries have registered to take part in the upcoming Eurasian Women's Forum, set to be held in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, Russian upper house speaker Valentina Matviyenko said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th September, 2018) Delegations from 117 countries have registered to take part in the upcoming Eurasian Women's Forum, set to be held in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, Russian upper house speaker Valentina Matviyenko said on Wednesday.

"On September 20-21, St. Petersburg will host the second international Eurasian Women's Forum. We have also invited the delegation of the Netherlands and we hope that they will respond to our invitation. I want to say that delegates from 117 countries have already registered for participation in the forum. We would like the Netherlands to take part in this international women's platform as well," Matviyenko said at a meeting with President of the Dutch Senate Ankie Broekers-Knol.

Nearly 30 international organization will be present at the forum, which will also host a meeting of the "women's big 20," Matviyenko stated.

"It will be a good, informative, non-politicized conversation about the role and place of women, their contribution to global stability, sustainable development. The program is extremely interesting and rich. I think that everyone who participates will remember this event," the senior Russian lawmaker added.

The first Eurasian Women's Forum was held on September 24-25, 2015 in St. Petersburg. The event gathered state officials, representatives of business community, science, as well as prominent leaders of the feminist movement from across the world. Among the main topics of the forum were the issues of social security, sustainable development, international cooperation, as well as expansion of women's participation in politics, economy and other areas.

This year's event will be the second edition of the forum. Following the 2015 Eurasian Women's Forum, which brought together participants from 80 countries, it was decided that the event would be held once every three years.
