Damascus' Military Success Unwelcome by States Unwilling to See Sovereign Syria - Moscow

The success of the Syrian government's forces in liberating the country from terrorists only concerns those who do not want to see Syria a sovereign and united state, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Tuesday.

"It is obvious for me that the situation in Syria and the Syrian government's successes in liberating the country from the last hotbeds of terrorism cause the growing rejection and concern from those who are not interested in Syria becoming a sovereign, united and peaceful state, where normal life is resuming, where refugees are returning, everything that Russia is talking about and is engaged in," Ryabkov told reporters at a panel session at the first UN Conference on Space Law and Policy, which opened in Moscow earlier in the day.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th September, 2018) The success of the Syrian government's forces in liberating the country from terrorists only concerns those who do not want to see Syria a sovereign and united state, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Tuesday.

This attitude coming from several states was the reason why Moscow had been warning the global community about a false-flag provocation with the use of chemical weapons being prepared by terrorists in Syria to subsequently blame it on the government, the diplomat pointed out.

Over recent years, Syrian authorities have recaptured vast territories from militants and terrorists. Last week, Syrian government forces engaged in an counterterrorism offensive to regain control over the Idlib province, which has for years been controlled by militants and terrorist groups.

Russia, which provides military support to Syria, has said that the terrorism hotbed in Idlib destabilizes the situation in the middle Eastern country and undermines the political settlement of the Syrian conflict. Moreover, Russian officials have repeatedly warned that terrorists were planning a false-flag chemical weapons attack in Idlib with an aim to provoke Western retaliation against the Syrian government.

US National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Monday that the United States, the United Kingdom and France had agreed that any use of chemical weapons by the government of Syria would result in a much stronger response than in previous instances.
