Those calling us beggars should be ashamed
Karachi (Pakistan Point News – 11th September, 2018) Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has given a solid reply to the critics of dams fund.
In his remarks while hearing a case on Tuesday, the CJP said that helping yourself for this national cause is not begging.
Those alleging us of begging funds should be ashamed. We are not beggars, we started this fund out of national concern.
Some niggards are making false allegations. The opposition, when could not find anything else, started opposing the construction of dams.
The Fund has been established by the SBP on the directions of the Supreme Court. All the commercial and micro-finance banks, and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation have opened the Fund account to receive donations in cash, and through cheques, pay orders and demand drafts at all their branches across the country.
The trend was started by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar himself who donated Rs 10 lac and then another Rs 1 lac for the construction of dams and has so far received generous donations from various individuals and groups.
Endorsing the CJP's initiative, Prime Minister Imran Khan made an impassioned appeal to all Pakistanis, particularly its overseas diaspora on Friday to donate funds in US Dollars to help the country build dams, as it faced major droughts by the year 2025.
"The future of our next generations will be in jeopardy, if we do not take any urgent steps to build water reservoirs," Prime Minister Imran Khan said in an address broadcast on the national television networks and said the country faced a "serious crisis".
"Construction of a dam for Pakistan today is inevitable," Imran Khan said and pointed that the country had an average water storage capacity of only 30 days, as compared to 190 days of India and 1000 days for Egypt. He said on an average, a country should have 120 day storage capacity.
"I laud the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar for his initiative for launching funds for the construction of dams," he haid said.
