US Navy Moves Ships From Norfolk, Virginia Ahead Of Hurricane Florence

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th September, 2018) War ships based at the US Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia are moving into the Atlantic Ocean to avoid Hurricane Florence, which is heading toward the southeastern coast of the United States, the US Navy said in a statement on Monday.

"US Navy ships underway from Naval Station Norfolk following Sortie Condition Alpha order by US Fleet Forces ahead of Hurricane Florence. Will be directed to areas of Atlantic Ocean where they will be best positioned to avoid the storm," the Navy said in a Twitter message.

Earlier on Monday, Florence strengthened to a Category 4 Hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 130 miles per hour.

The storm is expected to pass between Bermuda and the Bahamas on Tuesday and Wednesday, and approach the South Carolina and North Carolina coast by late Thursday or early Friday.
