Syria Guarantors, de Mistura Start Bilateral Talks on Constitutional Commission

Representatives of the three Syria ceasefire guarantor states - Russia, Turkey and Iran - have started bilateral meetings with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura in Geneva to discuss the constitutional commission, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

GENEVA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th September, 2018) Representatives of the three Syria ceasefire guarantor states - Russia, Turkey and Iran - have started bilateral meetings with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura in Geneva to discuss the constitutional commission, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

De Mistura is set to meet with each delegation bilaterally on Monday, while guarantors are due to hold one-on-one meetings themselves as well. All talks are conducted behind the closed doors at the UN Palais.

A quadripartite joint meeting of all participants will take place on Tuesday morning.

The guarantors are represented by Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari.

The sides will address the issues of the commission's composition, decision-making process, ways to get out of the situation of impasse, and the time frames for its work.
