World's 1st System To Rid Ocean Of Plastic Launched From San Francisco Bay - Press Release

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th September, 2018) The Dutch Ocean Cleanup company launched on Saturday the System 001 cleanup system that would aim to clean the world's ocean from plastic debris from the San Francisco Bay, the company said in a press release.

"The Ocean Cleanup, the Dutch non-profit organization developing advanced technologies to rid the oceans of plastic, today launched the world's first ocean cleanup system from the San Francisco Bay," the press release said.

The System 001 is made up of a 600-meter-long (1,968-feet-long) floating barrier which is propelled by wind and waves. The plastic debris collected by the system will be then transported to land for utilization aboard special vessels.

In the next five days, the system should sail 240 nautical miles offshore for a two-week trial. If the trial is successful, the system will then head to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, 1,200 nautical miles offshore.
