WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th September, 2018) US President Donald Trump in a statement applauded the 14-day prison sentence handed down to his former aide George Papadopoulos despite a costly investigation that has provided no evidence of collusion with Russia.
Earlier on Friday, the former Trump campaign adviser was sentenced to 14 days of incarceration by a judge for lying to Federal agents in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russia's role in the 2016 US presidential election.
"14 days for $28 MILLION - $2 MILLION a day, No Collusion. A great day for America!" Trump said via Twitter on Friday.
Papadopoulos also received one year of supervised release, 200 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $9,500 fine.
Trump did not cite the source of his cost estimate for the Mueller probe. In May, Mueller's office in a statement said it spent more than $4.5 million through 6 months - from October 1, 2017 through March 31, 2018.
Russia has denied all allegations of election meddling and collusion with the Trump campaign.
