Good Will in US Trade Talks With EU Gives Cause for 'Mild' Optimism - Trump Adviser

(Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th September, 2018) An atmosphere of optimism in the ongoing trade talks between the United States and the 28-nation European Union was cause for "mild" optimism, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said in a television interview on Friday.

"The relationship is growing between the US and the EU, and I like the good will," Kudlow, President Donald Trump's top economic adviser said on CNBC. He added that he was "mildly optimistic" about prospects for reaching a constructive new agreement.

Trade relations between Washington and Brussels have deteriorated since June since Trump imposed import tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the EU worth $7.4 billion. The move prompted disagreements on industrial metals, cars, and agricultural products.

However, Kudlow said Washington and Brussels were discussing new deals on such major trade items as soybeans, liquified natural gas (LNC), beef and military sales.

On July 25, Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker agreed to start a new stage of the US-EU relations, incorporating friendly relationship and strong trade ties.
