"We are now virtually in the situation of a political zugzwang, when any next step can only further aggravate the situation. It is an unprecedented situation in our relations with the United States, which has been brought about by those political forces which use Russia as a bogeyman," Ryabkov told Channel One's Great Game show on Thursday.
According to the politician, it will now be very difficult for the two states to find a way out of this deadlock, especially considering media bias against Moscow.
The United States and Russia are currently experiencing a severe crisis in bilateral relations over the latter's alleged destabilization efforts and suspected meddling in the 2016 US election. Russia has refuted allegations of rigging the vote and repeatedly stated that it did not interfere in the domestic affairs of sovereign states.
