A delegation of the Russian upper house lawmakers will discuss with North Korean parliamentarians the issues of cross-border cooperation between the two states, Oleg Melnichenko, the head of the Federation Council's regional policies committee and one of the delegates, told Sputnik on Friday
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th September, 2018) A delegation of the Russian upper house lawmakers will discuss with North Korean parliamentarians the issues of cross-border cooperation between the two states, Oleg Melnichenko, the head of the Federation Council's regional policies committee and one of the delegates, told Sputnik on Friday.
The delegation headed by Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko started its official visit to Pyongyang earlier in the day.
"First of all, we are planning to discuss cross-border and inter-regional cooperation as a whole. Such cooperation has great potential which is not being used to the fullest at the moment," Melnichenko said.
According to the lawmaker, the delegations will also discuss areas of economic cooperation which do not fall under the UN Security Council sanctions against Pyongyang.
Interaction in the spheres of culture and health care may also be addressed, Melnichenko added.
According to the Federation Council's press service, Matvienko will meet in Pyongyang with Kim Yong Nam, who is the president of the Presidium of North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly, and with parliamentary speaker Choe Thae Bok.
