Kim Jong Un Asks South Korean Envoy to Deliver His Message to US Authorities - Reports

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un asked the South Korean special envoy during their meeting in Pyongyang to hand over his message to the US authorities, local media reported Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th September, 2018) North Korean leader Kim Jong Un asked the South Korean special envoy during their meeting in Pyongyang to hand over his message to the US authorities, local media reported Thursday.

On Wednesday, South Korea's presidential special envoy Chung Eui-yong met in Pyongyang with Kim and handed over a letter from South Korean leader Moon Jae-in. In turn, Kim asked Chung to deliver his message to the US administration. The two parties also agreed to hold third inter-Korean summit on September 18-20 in Pyongyang.

Chung did not specify the content of Kim's message to Washington, but said that the North Korean leader did not agree with the US assessment of the lack of progress regarding the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the Yonhap news agency reported.

The North Korean leader noted that dismantling of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site almost deprived the country of the possibility to conduct new nuclear tests. Kim is displeased with the international community's lack of appreciation of Pyongyang's steps, the South Korean envoy said.

At the same time, Kim said that he still hoped for the completion of the process of normalizing Pyongyang's relations with Seoul and Washington before the end of US President Donald Trump's term in January 2021.

Kim also added that he did not link the formal agreement on ending the Korean War with the presence of US troops in the region.

Kim and Trump held their first summit in Singapore on June 12. After the meeting, the two leaders signed a joint declaration pledging to rid the Korean Peninsula of nuclear weapons and recover the remains of the dead soldiers from the Korean War.

However, after this meeting, there were no reports of North Korea's denuclearization efforts, which triggered Trump's discontent. In late August, the US president said he had instructed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to postpone his planned visit to North Korea over the lack of progress toward denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.
