Twitter Now Blocks Over 500,000 Suspicious Logins Daily, Twice as Many as Last Year - CEO

Twitter is now preventing more than 500,000 fake login attempts a day, which is double of the amount of sign-ups that were detected in 2017, the company's CEO Jack Dorsey said in a congressional hearing on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th September, 2018) Twitter is now preventing more than 500,000 fake login attempts a day, which is double of the amount of sign-ups that were detected in 2017, the company's CEO Jack Dorsey said in a congressional hearing on Wednesday.

"We thwart 530,000 suspicious logins a day, approximately double the amount of logins that we detected a year ago," Dorsey told the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Dorsey said Twitter's efforts to improve detection systems to fight illegal activities through the platform have been efficient. The social media company is now able to remove 214 percent more accounts from year to year for manipulating policies, he said.

He added that the number of spam reports has gone down over the course of the last three month. In March 2018, the company received 25,000 spam reports from people on Twitter, while the number dropped to 17,000 in August.

Dorsey said Twitter is continuing to work on improving its security systems as hacking attacks become more sophisticated.

Twitter has been frequently criticized by US lawmakers for not doing enough to prevent disinformation campaigns during the 2016 presidential elections. The issue remains crucial ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. The US intelligence community has accused Russia of using social media to disrupt the democratic American election process. Russia has repeatedly denied allegations of meddling in the 2016 vote, calling the accusations "absurd."
