Eastern Japan Hit By 5.4-Magnitude Earthquake - US Geological Survey

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th September, 2018) A 5.4-magnitude earthquake occurred near the eastern coast of the biggest Japanese island of Honshu, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which took place on late Tuesday, was located at the depth of 39.1 kilometers (over 24 miles), 81 kilometers east of the city of Hitachi in the Ibaraki prefecture.

There are no reports about victims and damages caused by the quake. No tsunami alert was declared.

Japan is located in a seismically active zone known as the Ring of Fire and regularly suffers from powerful earthquakes. The 2011 9.0-magnitude earthquake and the following tsunami killed over 15,000 people and caused the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster.
