PTI's Dr Arif Alvi elected 13th president of Pakistan

PTI's Dr Arif Alvi got 212 votes from the electoral college of the National Assembly and the Senate, Maulana Fazlur Rahman got 131 votes and Aitzaz Ahsan got 81 votes.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 4th September, 2018) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Dr Arif Alvi has been elected as the 13th president of the country.

The polling to elect the 13th president of the country was held today, Tuesday.

The PTI had fielded its senior leader Arif Alvi while Muttahida Majlis-e-Aamal’s (MMA) Maulana Falzur Rehman and Pakistan People’s Party's (PPP) Aitzaz Ahsan were in the race for the election for the office of President. The election was held through secret balloting procedure.

PTI's Dr Arif Alvi got 212 votes from the electoral college of National Assembly and Senate, Maulana Fazlur Rahman got 131 votes while Aitzaz Ahsan got 81 votes.

Dr Arif Alvi received 78 votes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 56 votes in Sindh Assembly and 45 votes in Balochistan Assembly.

Talking to media after his victory, Dr Arif Alvi said, “I want to thank Allah for my success. I want to thank Imran Khan for believing in me and giving me this position.

He also thanked the independents and political parties who supported me. My opponents who took part in my elections are also my companions, he said.

“Allah has given me the opportunity to serve the poor. The message of PTI has become the message of government. I am the president of the entire country and all the political parties,” he said.

The electoral college of Pakistan – comprising the Senate and the recently elected national and provincial legislatures – had cast its vote for the country’s 13th president today. Polling for presidential election 2018 began at 10am today and concluded at 4pm.

The Presiding Officer for Presidential Election, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth, counted the votes.

Dr Arif Alvi will take oath as the 13th President for the next five years.
