Luhansk People's Republic Says School Truce Observed By Kiev Forces For 2nd Day In Row

LUHANSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd September, 2018) The people's militia of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) has not registered any violations of the so-called school truce by Ukrainian security forces for the second consecutive day, the republic's defense ministry told Sputnik on Sunday.

The new truce, which is timed to the beginning of the academic year, came into effect on Wednesday. This is the fourth attempt by the parties to the conflict to establish a ceasefire in the region since the beginning of the year.

"Over the past day, there has been no shelling by Ukrainian security forces, and the ceasefire regime was respected, like during the previous day," the ministry said.

The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Kiev launched a military operation against self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics after they refused to recognize the new government in Kiev that came to power after what they considered to be a coup. In February 2015, the warring parties signed the Minsk peace accords to end the hostilities in the region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
