US-Led Coalition's Airstrikes Kill 2 Taliban Leaders In Southern Afghanistan - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st September, 2018) Two leaders of the Taliban movement have been killed in airstrikes conducted by the US-led coalition near the Afghan city of Qalat in the southern province of Zabul, media reported on Saturday, citing local police official.

Xinhua news agency reported, citing local police chief Mohammad Mustafa Mayar, that the aircraft conducted several strikes on Friday, targeting the militants' hideouts. Several militants were also injured.

The Taliban movement is one of the largest terrorist groups fighting against Kabul for control over the country. The United States deployed its troops in Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks, fighting Al-Qaeda terrorist organization (banned in Russia) and overthrowing the Taliban, which seized power in 1996. While most of the US troops left Afghanistan by the end of 2014, Washington continues to support the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces in combating terrorism by conducting airstrikes against terrorists.
