Walk the Talk: Asad Umar responds to brother Zubair Umar’s critical tweet

Muhammad Zubair had demanded a cut in taxes on petroleum products.

Karachi (Pakistan Point News – 1st September, 2018) Finance Minister Asad Umar responded to his brother and former Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair’s tweet where he demanded a cut in taxes on petroleum products.

‏Sharing a screenshot of a 2016 tweet made by Asad Umar where he had criticized the PMLN government for imposing 52 percent tax on petroleum products, Muhammad Zubair said, "I am sure one of his 1st acts would be cut down the taxes on petrol that he had been demanding while in opposition.”

The former Sindh Governor, who is quite vocal for his party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), had said that it is a golden chance for incumbent Finance Minister Asad Umar to cut over 50 percent taxes on petrol he used to criticize while in opposition.

Asad Umar also came up with a reply to his brother and PMLN.

Responding to Zubair’s tweet, Asad wrote, “Incidence of tax on petrol in the prices effective today is 23.6%, less than half the tax rate of 52% which i had criticized. pml n govt had Rs.300 billion as petrol levy in budget for this year. Wait for my strategy to be presented to parliament and u will see the difference.”

The government on Friday reduced the prices of petroleum products with Rs2.41 per litre decrease in petrol prices, Rs6.37 per litre in diesel, Rs0.46 per litre in kerosene oil.

The prices will be made effective from today and will remain in force till Sep 30.
