Turkey and the Netherlands have agreed to appoint new ambassadors to replace the ones who were recalled earlie over the diplomatic crisis between the two countries, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday.

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) Turkey and the Netherlands have agreed to appoint new ambassadors to replace the ones who were recalled earlie over the diplomatic crisis between the two countries, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday.

"[I] met with my Dutch counterpart Stef Blok in Vienna. In line with the decision on normalization of our relations, we agreed to appoint Ambassadors as soon as possible. Blok will also pay an official visit to Turkey in early October," the minister wrote on his Twitter page.

Turkish-Dutch relations deteriorated in March 2017 when the Netherlands refused to allow Cavusoglu's plane to land on Dutch soil. The diplomat was supposed to meet with Turkish expats in the Netherlands in the run-up to the Turkish constitutional referendum.

After the incident, Ankara declared the Dutch ambassador a persona non grata. In February 2018, the Netherlands officially recalled its ambassador from Turkey.
