China, Japan Agree to Boost Economic, Financial Partnership at Bilateral Talks - Reports

Beijing and Tokyo agreed to step up the development of bilateral relations in economy and finance during a forum held in the Chinese capital on Friday, media reported.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) Beijing and Tokyo agreed to step up the development of bilateral relations in economy and finance during a forum held in the Chinese capital on Friday, media reported.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso led the delegation from the Japanese side, while Finance Minister Liu Kun had been at the helm of the Chinese mission at the 7th Japan-China Finance Dialogue, the Japanese NHK broadcaster reported.

In a joint statement on the results of their talks, the two sides said they had reached an accord on granting financial support to each other in an event of a financial crisis, according to the outlet. Moreover, Tokyo and Beijing agreed to promote an initiative that would allow private companies from both states to jointly participate in infrastructural project in third countries.

The statement also criticized protectionism, adding that China and Japan agreed to promote an open and transparent trading system.

NHK noted that Aso told reporters after the consultations that the talks were held in a good atmosphere, which showed that the relations between the two countries were improving.

The Japan-China Finance Dialogue took place amid mounting trade tensions between China and the United States. The row erupted after US President Donald Trump said in March he would raise duties on imported steel and aluminum, prompting criticism from Beijing. Since then, both sides introduced several rows of tariffs on mutual imports.
