MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom is planning to sign first contracts with Egyptian subcontractors on construction works to prepare the site for the Dabaa nuclear power plant (NPP) until the end of the year, Grigory Sosnin, the president of the Rosatom's Engineering Division Atomstroyexport (ASE) Group, said.

Sosnin said in the interview with the Nuclear Engineering International magazine that the company was also planning to submit basic documents necessary for receiving a permit to build the NPP to the client in late December, noting that the Egyptian authorities were likely to issue the permit in the middle of 2020.

In November 2015, Russia and Egypt signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the Dabaa NPP, consisting of four 1,200-megawatt nuclear power units of 3+ generation, which be in conformity with the highest, "post-Fukushima," security standards. The plant is expected to be built by Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom within 12 years. The project officially kicked off on December 11, 2017. The launch of the NPP's first unit is expected in 2026.
